C. Paul Verghese (b. 1927) had his early education in Kerala. He took his M.A. and L.L.B. degrees from Lucknow University and Ph.D. from Poona University. He was a teacher of English since 1950. He taught at the CMS College, Kottayam, the National Defence Academy, Poona, and Catholicate College, Pathanamthitt a. From 1976 to 1983, he was Principal of Catholicate College.Dr. Verghese made Indian writing in English his special field of study and research. He was the author of Problems of Indian Creative Writer in English, Essays on Indian Writing in English and Nirad C. Chaudhuri: An Assessment. His other works include Literary Criticism: A Workbook and translati ons of Malayalam novels intoEnglish.
