C. J. Hudson grew up surrounded by crime, violence, and drugs in the east side of Cleveland. He attended Kent State University for one year with a strong determination to not to succumb to that way of living. When he was laid off from his job as a machine operator, as an avid fan of urban fiction, C. J. decided to try his hand at writing his own novel. His first manuscript was entitled Skeletons. Since dropping his debut novel, he has penned many more novels.
