Sampooran Singh Kalra, known by his pen name Gulzar, is a legendary Indian Urdu poet, lyricist, author, screenwriter, and film director. He writes primarily in Urdu and Punjabi, as well as Braj Bhasha, Khariboli, Haryanvi, and Marwari. His bestselling works include Baal-o-Par, Baaghbaan, Dhuan, and Mera Kuch Samaan, among others. Influenced by Urdu and Punjabi literature, his lyrics for films like Dil Se, Guru, and Slumdog Millionaire have earned him immense acclaim. He has won 5 Indian National Film Awards, the Padma Bhushan, the Academy Award, the Grammy Award and the Jnanpith Award - India's highest literary award.
