All students interested in pursuing Chartered Accountancy (CA) course must first pass the CA entrance exam held by ICAI. Undergraduates and graduates have different levels of entrance exams for getting admission into the CA course.

At Bookscape.com, you can find a whole range of CA exam preparation books and study materials at the best prices for the same.

Entrance Exams for CA Course

The CA course has three levels of examination –

CA Foundation: ICAI foundation exam is the first stage exam or the entry-level exam to become a Chartered Accountant in India. Candidates can take the CA foundation exam after Class 12.

CA Intermediate: Also called CA Inter, this level has two groups of three subjects with six papers each.

CA Final: The third level exam for becoming a CA (post articleship). It also has six papers divided into two groups.

Articleship: In addition to this, students must undergo practical training for two years known as ‘Articleship’ to become a certified Chartered Accountant. This helps them gain real-world experience.

Now, there are two ways to get admission into CA course –

1)    Foundation route
2)    Direct Entry

For students opting for ‘Foundation route’, CA Foundation exam is considered as the entrance exam. And for students opting for ‘Direct Entry’, CA Intermediate exam is considered as the entrance exam.

CA Foundation Exam

The students who wish to pursue CA after class 12 usually opt for this CA Foundation exam route.

Eligibility Criteria for Foundation Exam

The students must successfully clear Class 12 exams and secure a minimum of 50% to appear in the CA foundation exams. However, they can first enroll for the Foundation Course with ICAI Board of Studies after clearing the Class X exam.

The CA Foundation exam has replaced the CA-CPT exam and is now administered thrice a year in May/June, September and January by the ICAI. The Foundation exams can be taken in May before Class XII results are declared. Both the Class XII results and Foundation exam results are considered along with other necessary eligibility criteria. If a student fails to meet eligibility criteria, their Foundation registration stands cancelled.
