يَكْتُبُ جَدُّ شادي قِصَصًا مِنْ طُفولَتِهِ الَّتي أَمْضاها في القَرْيَة. وَيُقَدِّمُ هَذِهِ القِصَصَ لِحَفيدِهِ الَّذي سُمِّيَ عَلى اسْمِهِ، لِيَقْرَأَها. شادي الصَّغير، طِفْلٌ فُضولِيٌّ يُحِبُّ اكْتِشافَ العالَمِ مِنْ حَوْلِه. عِنْدَما يَتْعَبُ مِنَ الدَّرْسِ، يَتَنَزَّهُ عَلى ضِفَّةِ نَهْرٍ قَريبٍ مِنَ المَزْرَعَة. هَيّا نُرافِقْهُ في نُزْهَتِهِ في فَصْلِ الخَريفِ وَنَكْتَشِفِ الطَّبيعَةَ المُتَغَيِّرَةَ، وَنُسافِرْ مَعَهُ في عالَمِ الأَحْلامِ كَما تُسافِرُ سَمَكاتُ النَّهْر.عِنْدَما كَتَبَت إملي نصرالله لِلأَطفال، كانَتْ جَدَّتُها هِيَ المَصدَرَ الأوَّل لِلقِصَّة، يُنْبوعها، وَعلى حَدّ قَوْلِها: لا يُمْكِنُنا أَنْ نَكتُبَ لِلأَطْفالِ إِلّا إِن كانَ ثَمَّةَ طِفلٌ لا يَزالُ صاحِيًا في كَيانِنا.Shadi's grandfather writes stories from his childhood which he spent in the village. He gives these stories to his grandson who was named after him to read. Little Shadi is a curious boy who loves exploring the world around him. When he gets tired of studying he takes walks along the riverbank near the farm.
