Life for Vanessa Perez has not been an easy one. For years, this young Mexican-American girl has dealt with the hardship of a broken, unstable home, and the prospect of a dismal future. So when a handsome boy offers her the promise of love, and she becomes pregnant, Vanessa finally begins to hope for a life of happiness. But hope turns to betrayal as she later discovers him in the arms of another girl, her best friend. In a violent rage, Vanessa brutally attacks her boyfriend, and the dream of love is replaced by the harsh reality of an 18 month sentence in a youth correctional facility.
