About The Book

This story of William Effingham Lawrence Tasmanian pioneer and his family is the completion of a sixty-five year life journey. The journey began with my father in the 1950s regaling me with stories of his great-grandfather closing his business in London England loading his family and goods onto his 71 ton cutter and embarking on a nine month voyage to Van Diemens Land arriving in February 1823. This sparked a deep-seated abiding interest in the history of our family which has led to contact with many interesting people in many parts of the world who have a common interest in our family heritage. The early chapters cover the origins of the family and the years spent in North America. Chapter 4 is the life and times of William Effingham Lawrence the subsequent chapters are devoted to each of his offspring and the final chapters cover other items of family interest. Inclusion of extensive references cross-referencing within the book and a comprehensive index are changes since the 1973 edition.
