C. Viruthachalam better known by his pen name Pudhumaipithan was a revolutionary Tamil writer who is widely accredited with the development of modern Tamil fiction. His writings address topics of satire progressiveness and criticism. His writingss were met with extreme hostility by contemporary writers and critics due to the unorthodox nature of his opinions. Its been sixty years since he died but his individual identity and works have been debated extensively. His legacy is still celebrated by todays writers and critics of Tamil fiction.
