About The Book

Samuthiram was a Tamil author and journalist who was born in Tippanampatti village in Tirunelveli District. He worked in All India Radio and Doordarshan before becoming a prolific writer, authoring 14 novels, 4 novellas, 2 essay anthologies, 1 play and over 300 short stories which were published as 22 collections. Many of his works have been translated into other Indian languages such as Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. He was known for his socialist political orientation and was involved in literary feuds with fellow writers such as Asokamitran and Vannanilavan. His works reflect his socialist beliefs and often highlight the oppression of the downtrodden. In 1990, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his novel "Veril Pazhutha Pala". He died in 2003 in a road accident in Chennai.
