<p>When discussing early ideas academia typically views texts as a storage of ideas rather than a valuable object of study. This method not only idealizes the description of early intellectual history but also draws artificial boundaries between textual tradition and philosophical tradition. This book shifts the focus of analysis viewing texts as meaningful realities in the culture and social reality of the time and further discussing the material conditions writing culture writing meaning construction strategies text groups and the interrelationships between philosophical ideas of ancient world texts. By analyzing different strategies for constructing the meaning of the unearthed texts from Guodian Tomb No. 1 and by examining the philosophical thinking activities of the ancient world that can be judged based on material evidence this book distinguishes between discourse based texts and context based texts. It is believed that a new change has emerged in the philosophical corpus of China at that time developing a complex discourse form that hierarchically organizes thoughts and integrates reality.
