A Blow to The Eye: Ocular and Orbital Trauma

About The Book

Trauma to the orbital region can result in considerable facial deformity and can affect vision and the nervous system of the face. Several factors need to be considered in determining whether surgical intervention is indicated in a patient with an orbital fracture. A careful history and thorough physical examination are integral components in making decisions regarding the subsequent management of these patients.Over a period of time various authors have discussed the various clinical features signs and symptoms that are commonly seen in an orbital trauma patient indicating the requirement of surgery or conservative management. This book of orbital fractures has three goals: 1) to understand the clinically relevant orbital anatomy with regard to periorbital trauma and orbital fractures 2) to explain how to assess and examine a patient after periorbital trauma and 3) to understand the medical and surgical management of orbital fractures. The book aims to summarize the evaluation and management of commonly encountered orbital fractures from the ophthalmologic perspective and to provide an overview for all practicing ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists in training
