About The Book

Sir Arthur Lyon Bowley (18691957) was a British economist and statistician. In this book which was first published in 1900 Bowley provides a statistically based examination of British wages during the nineteenth century. Originating in notes prepared for the Newmarch Lectures at University College London in 1898 the text constitutes an attempt ''to illustrate the various questions that arise in the study of wages choosing those groups which afford problems of any special difficulty or interest''. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in British economic history and the development of statistics.
