A Collection Of Characters

About The Book

This collection brings together the short stories of Alan Fleishman most previously published elsewhere in such places as the Avalon Literary Review the Pennsylvania Literary Journal and Evening Street Review. If there is a theme to these stories it is of the tangled relationships at the core of our lives – some good some bad some enduring and some fleeting. They each leave their mark and change who we are.In Frannie Potter an unusual young American woman runs off to fight in the Spanish Civil War to save the threatened Republic and keep her friend Marty alive. Demons and the Red Bicycle is about a little boy who longs for a new father and a red bicycle. Happy Hour at the DMV brings some levity from an unusual place the Department of Motor Vehicles. In Regrets a novelist with writer’s block befriends an old man with many stories to tell. An odd turn sets him on an unexpected new course. The remaining stories capture the humorous the inspiring and the enigmatic sides of human nature. They are about singular unexpected events and choices which alter the course of a life.
