About The Book

A Complete Account of the Settlement at Port Jackson is a historical account of the establishment of the first European colony in Australia. The book was written by Watkin Tench an officer in the British Marine Corps who arrived in Australia with the First Fleet in 1788. Tench provides a detailed description of the journey from England to Australia and the early years of the settlement including the interactions between the British and the Indigenous people. The book also includes observations on the flora fauna and geography of the region as well as the social conditions of the colonists. It is considered one of the most important primary sources on early Australian history.
