<p>Sign language (SL) is a visual language used all over the world by deaf and speech impaired people for communicating among themselves. Ac- cording to the 2011 census India has more than 2 million speech impaired people and 5 million deaf people. India has less than 300 human interpreters for deaf and speech impaired people. For the re- placement of human interpreters technology can be helpful to build a machine interpreter. Computer vision methods can be used to analyze acquire pro- cess and understand image information. Consequently computer vi- sion has gained popularity among researchers. The application of com- puter vision involves shape estimation motion estimation segmenta- tion and analysis. Computer-vision-based SLR can enable the building of a real- time machine interpreter system that can be used to bridge the com- munication gaps between deaf and speech impaired people and non- disabled people.</p>
