Gloria Naylor (January 25 1950-September 28 2016) one of the most celebrated and successful contemporary Afro-American writer moved ahead of her predecessors giving a complex picture of the historically limited choices and identity that black women have faced in her sequence of novels which have formed a quartet - The Women of Brewster Place (1982) Linden Hills (1985) Mama Day (1988) and Bailey's Cafe (1992). The book is focused on Naylor’s four novels which focus on female-bonding to discuss the need for the formation of community mothers and sisters to combat with the oppression of the Afro-American women on the basis of race class and gender and in the process to empower themselves.
