This book of fiction contains references to historical facts. There were actually families who were split asunder by the choice of defending the North or the South. History shows that the Southern Home Guard became a source of disgrace to most southerners. The destruction of the Southern homes fields and courthouses by General Sherman were used to force the people to surrender and swear allegiance to the United States of America. Immense suffering and death occurred on both sides. The psychological injury to the nations psyche endures even today in some parts of the country.
