About The Book

A General History and Collection of Voyages and Travels is a compilation of travel literature from the 15th to the 18th centuries originally compiled by historian and editor Robert Kerr in the 19th century. The 5th volume of this series is a collection of narratives of voyages and explorations by Europeans to the East and West Indies. The book features accounts of the Portuguese navigators who sailed around the Cape of Good Hope to India including Vasco da Gamas voyage to Calicut in 1497-1498. It also includes the narratives of the Dutch East India Companys explorations and trade relations with the East Indies as well as the voyages of the English navigator William Dampier to the West Indies and the Pacific Ocean. With its rich and varied narratives of early modern exploration and discovery this volume is an invaluable resource for scholars historians and travel enthusiasts alike.
