The Black Watch was one of the many distinguished Scottish regiments to have played a long and often glorious part in the history of the British Army since it was first raised in 1725 in the midst of the Jacobite rebellions. The first part of this history covers the regiment from its formation to Waterloo and its frequent subsequent deployments in India.
