A History of Women's Political Participation in Nigeria

This study establishes the actual level of women’s political participation in Nigeria and focuses attention on the socio-economic factors that are responsible for the political underrepresentation of women in Nigerian politics. The research follows the historical sequence of the various civilian-rule periods in Nigeria from the First Republic to the Fourth.The socio-economic and political status of women in each Republic has been discussed contextually. The primary concern is the political status of women under different democratic administrations.
