A Little Dusky Hero

The story revolves around a young African American boy named Toby who works as a stable boy on a plantation owned by Colonel Forsythe. Despite his humble beginnings Toby possesses a brave and adventurous spirit earning him the nickname hero among the other children on the plantation. One day Toby overhears a group of men plotting to steal the Colonel's prized horse Starlight and sell her for a large sum of money. Determined to protect the horse and prove himself a hero Toby sets out to thwart the thieves' plans. Using his wits and resourcefulness Toby manages to outsmart the thieves and prevent them from stealing Starlight. In the process he sustains a minor injury but emerges victorious earning the admiration and gratitude of Colonel Forsythe and the other residents of the plantation.
