A Message from the Sea

The story is set in a coastal village and revolves around the mysterious arrival of a sea chest containing a message. The message which is written in an unknown language baffles the villagers and they enlist the help of Mr. Frank Softly a lawyer and his friend Captain Jorgan a retired sailor. Together they attempt to decipher the message and uncover the identity of the chest's sender.As the plot unfolds secrets from the past are gradually revealed including a tale of love betrayal and vengeance. The story explores themes of redemption forgiveness and the consequences of one's actions.A Message from the Sea is notable for its collaboration between Dickens and Wilkie Collins both prominent Victorian novelists. While the novella may not be as famous as some of Dickens's longer works it retains his signature storytelling style and keen characterizations.
