A Monograph On Technology Of Ceramics - And - Composites

About The Book

This book is all about the exceptionally important materials which are known as ceramics. In simple terms ceramics are defined as nonmetallic inorganic compounds which are either found in nature (mines) or synthesized in production plants. Exception being carbon which is although an element is used in making many ceramic products. Ceramics are generally manufactured under high temperature although in some process it is not so (as in SOL-GEL) process which is a chemical process). Most popular ceramics are Refractories (used in high temperature industries) Insulators (For electrical transmission and as Electronic capacitors) Permanent Magnets Semi-conductors (for Electronics Computers Mobiles etc.) Super-conductors (used in levitation function of Bullet Trains/other high speed transportation systems in conjuction with their magnetic repulsive orientation) Fuel Cells (Energy storage for Automobiles and other sectors) Atomic Energy Plants Rockets Space-crafts Missiles etc.) Traditionally ceramics find use as Pottery & Porcelain. Glass is also an important ceramic material which are used in different ways in homes & hotels crystal wares opaque wares (like LAOPALA) as glass sheets in Building & Automobiles as well as other transportation systems. Besides they are used in Telecommunication as “OPTICAL FIBRE”. To enhance the properties of Ceramics other Materials (like Carbon Metals Polymers etc.) are combined with ceramics to produce “composites”. Most popular composites are CMC (Ceramic Matrix Composite) and MMC (Metal Matrix Composite). Building Materials like Bricks Tiles Sanitarywares Cement Concrete etc. are also ceramic materials.
