<p><em>A Passage to India</em> by E. M. Forster is a novel set in colonial India during the British Raj. It explores the strained relationships between the British colonizers and the Indian population.</p><p>The story follows Dr. Aziz a young Indian physician who befriends two visiting Englishwomen Mrs. Moore and Adela Quested as well as the liberal schoolmaster Cyril Fielding. Tensions rise when Adela during a trip to the Marabar Caves believes Aziz has assaulted her. Though the accusation is later withdrawn the event deepens mistrust and widens the cultural divide between Indians and the British.</p><p>Through its characters and setting the novel examines themes of colonialism racial prejudice friendship and the difficulty of true understanding across cultural boundaries.</p><p></p><p></p><p></p>
