A Piece of Calcutta : The City of Tram

Kolkata ( Calcutta) is a cosmopolitan city a miniature of India . Here lives the affluent class who dwells in luxurious adobes and spends unaccounted money on the luxurious affairs. On the other hand there is the marginal existence of people on the streets of Kolkata whose earnings dont enable them to make both ends meet. A Piece of Kolkata is a collection of short stories which gives a glimpse of the city life. Though the names are fictitious but the themes are taken from real life incidences and in most cases a woman is the main protagonist . The stories reveal the lives of docile housewives unconventional convicts downtrodden eunuchs diehard criminals kind hearted policemen contemporary artists infamous art critics dishonest businessmen and the unassuming beggers. Like every other cities there is good bad and ugly sides of the city life of Kolkata yet Kolkata remains the City of Joy and whenever I am away from the city I like to return back again and again to Kolkata with a feeling that I have no way to escape from my beloved city . In todays world the life has become complicated and stressful. Its very difficult to squeeze out time from our very hectic schedule. Therefore I have tried to keep my stories short so that anyone can complete a couple of stories even in a metro ride.
