A Possible Role of Vitamin D and C3 Serum Levels in Insulin Resistance

About The Book

The prevalence of obesity has recently reached epidemic proportions along with obesity-associated cardiometabolic disorders such as insulin resistance. Obesity is connected with chronic low grade inflammation and is responsible for the activation of the complement system of which the complement 3 (C3) plays the vital role. The role of the C3 in the human immune system is well revealed but the effect of improbable management of the C3 on health requires further investigation. Vitamin D deficiency is also prevalent worldwide. Vitamin D status has linked with obesity as well as with immune system defect. Hence we aimed in this study to determine vitamin D and proinflammatory biomarkers (i.e. C3 and C-reactive protein (CRP)) serum levels and their association with insulin resistance along with different adiposity indicators among participants with obesity as compared to healthy control aged 18-35 years from the University of Jordan Amman Jordan.
