About The Book
Description
Author
This is a tale of repression prejudice and above all romance between two unlikely individuals: the sophisticated upper-class Lucy Honeychurch and the boyish George Emerson. Taking place during the Edwardian era the story follows Lucy as she vacations in Italy dying to get away from her restrictive life and family in Britain. She encounters George at her hotel and is immediately fascinated by him for he seems the exact opposite of her family: unpretentious unconventional and full of life. But she knows her family would never approve of him. Returning to Britain she finds herself torn between society’s expectations of her and what she secretly wants for herself. E. M. Forster was an English author and essayist best remembered for the six novels he wrote during his career and the way he masterfully confronted various social issues through them. A humanist at heart he explored themes of class division gender and imperialism in his books through that lens. The final book he wrote A Passage to India brought him widespread critical acclaim and was considered to be his finest work.
