A Study of Fibrin D-dimer and CRP in IHD Patients in Bangladesh

About The Book

Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the most common serious chronic life threatening illness in the world. This condition causes more deaths and disability and incurs greater economic costs than any other illness in the developed and developing countries. Fibrin D-dimer a marker of cross-linked fibrin turn over has been shown to be associated with the risk of future IHD in persons with and with out baseline evidence of vascular disease. C-reactive protein(CRP) a marker of the reactive plasma protein component of the inflammatory response has also been associated with the risk of future IHD not only among patients with stable and unstable angina and high risk subjects but also among population samples of apparently healthy middle-aged man and elderly man and women. The present cross-sectional comparative study was carried out in Chittagong Medical College Hospital Chittagong during the period of July 2007 – June 2008. Total 72 patients were enrolled in the study. From the study we found that the measurements of fibrin D-dimer and CRP significantly rise in IHD patients. They may provide a cheap available and useful diagnostic marker of IHD.
