Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is charged with responsibility of setting and co-coordinating the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The performance from any assessment process is considered by the majority as a learning outcome and judgment is levied based on this outcome. Mock examination as a formative assessments criterion also acts as a fallback to most education institutions parents students and examination officers in case of any suspicions or malpractice in the KCSE examinations. Mock therefore as an assessment must meet the guidelines on examination procedures such as syllabus requirements setting procedures test specification test moderation invigilation marking and grading among others. For this to be reliably applicable there must be a positive correlation between mock and KCSE examinations. The effect of introducing mock examinations as part of KCSE examinations is worth investigating.
