A Study on Vegetable Production under Shade Nets in Kolar District

Agriculture is highly dependent on environment and it is very difficult to get favourable climatic conditions for crop growth and development as per crop need. In recent years constraints in agriculture like fragmentation of cultivable land water scarcity rapid urbanization declining crop production and productivity crash in market price declining biodiversity and ever increasing population demand for food especially vegetables has increased manifold. Promotion of protected cultivation will certainly help in the creation of large scale self-employment opportunities for unemployed educated youth and will also raise the national economy by sale of high quality produce in domestic and international markets. Protected cultivation has offered a new dimension to produce more in a limited area in Kolar district. An attempt would be made through this study to analyse the adoption behaviour and farmers’ perception on protected cultivation and cost and returns of protected cultivation.
