A Theory of Human Motivation

According to Maslow human needs can be arranged into a hierarchical structure with the most basic needs at the bottom and higher needs at the top. The bottom level of the hierarchy includes physiological needs such as hunger thirst and sleep. The next level includes safety needs such as the need for shelter and security. The third level includes love and belonging needs such as the need for social connection and relationships. The fourth level includes esteem needs such as the need for achievement and recognition. Finally the top level includes self-actualization needs which are the highest level of human needs and involve personal growth creativity and fulfillment.
