A Three-Component Hybrid Image Compression Algorithm

With the use of multimedia technologies increasing every day image compression techniques not only need to incorporate new features but also better performance. This book will present two hybrid image compression algorithms. The first algorithm a two-way hybrid combines the fractal image compression algorithm along with the very familiar and popular DCT-based JPEG algorithm. The second algorithm a three-way hybrid combines the two-way hybrid with JPEG2000 image compression the newer emerging standard for image compression. The fractal image compression used by both hybrid algorithms has a greater depth of quadtree partitioning than traditional implementations extending all the way down to single-pixel blocks. The hybrid image compression algorithms discussed in this book yield better compression ratios and image quality reconstruction when compared to the fractal JPEG or JPEG2000 image compression methods individually.
