A university within the University

From a humanistic and contemporary perspective Mônica Valle Vieira presents in a clear and objective manner the creation and implementation of a UTI at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon. The socio-cultural approach to old age in its physical emotional and psychological aspects combined with an understanding of the phenomenological processes of aging creates a dynamic of inclusion that advocates for their reintegration into the community both culturally and socially. The use of physical space in the aforementioned institution as well as intergenerational relationships through volunteering provide a new way to stimulate non-formal education. This project seeks in a realistic and cohesive way to promote the interaction of senior citizens in the educational process thus restoring their identity as active members of society.
