Aagayathaamarai is a novel by Ashokamithran a pioneer of Tamil literature. With Water Hyacinths as metaphors for human dreams Ashokamitran paints a story of our reality in contrast. The novel is of the happenings that change the life of an youngster named Ragunathan. It is also a portrayal of urban middle class life in general. Through a mix of internal dilemmas and events happening the novel talks about social-economical relationships the hierarchy within them.
