Increasing attention is being paid in recent years to exploit the biotechnological potential of algal biomass as a source of industrially valuable compounds. Among such commercial ventures mass production of some halotolerant algae other than Dunaliella for production of the fine chemicals especially β-carotene glycerol and lipids. It has been shown that these algae accumulate a high amount of these chemicals when grown under abiotic stress such as light intensity salt concentrations temperature and nutrient deficiencies.
