In The Lottery the world falls in the Freudian struggle between human aggression and civilization.In The Castle it falls when the child loses the desire to identify with the parents and suffer psychological disturbancesand it falls in moments of extreme pressure when physical pain vanishes and man creates an imaginary vision through which death becomes the inevitable end as in The Haunting.
