About The Book

About the Book: Aboli is a collection of poetry written by Awadhoot Bhalekar between 1950 and 1970. It is a labor of love astute observation of nature humans and human nature. Unlike more popular writers of the time he chose a low-key life writing with passion but not for prominence. Publication of Aboli is an endeavor of his two daughters that his writing be shared widely with readers of Marathi poetry to savor and enjoy. About the Author: Awadhoot Bhalekar is a prolific writer and thinker who wrote with stalwarts like Balasaheb Thackeray and Acharya Atre. Born in 1934 and raised in Devgad he is the youngest son amongst six other siblings he aspired to become a doctor which his family could not afford. Instead he moved to Bombay and worked in the Central Telegraph Office on Veer Nariman Road by the Flora Fountain Circle in Fort. There he amassed many friends and admirers – both Indian and British – with his generosity of spirit and wit and command of Marathi and English languages. He was equally comfortable in the company of musician friends Kalyanji–Anandji or spending time with cronies at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. In his time Awadhoot Bhalekar wrote both prose and poetry that were published in leading publications like Prabhodan under the mentorship of Prabhodhankar Thackeray later with Acharya Atre and other Marathi and English news publications. Aboli is a collection of poetry written between 1950 and 1970. It is a small window into a world of nostalgia friendship love freedom and country. Awadhoot Bhalekar now resides in Pune with his wife of 52 years Anjali Bhalekar.
