Academic Performance as Affected by the Class Size

This study investigated the effect of class size on academic performance of students in secondary schools in Borama District. Class size is the number of learners under instruction of an individual teacher in a school at one time and in one lesson. Academic performance is the observable and measurable behavior of a learner after a teaching and learning experience.In Somaliland the proportions of students failing SGSCE increased from 24.43% to 27.83% to 37.49% 41.22% and to 45.44% in Somaliland and from 22.92% to 24.45% to 28.41% 30.78% and to 37.07% in Borama District in 2011 2012 2013 2014 and 2015 respectively. Data was collected from a stratified random sample 306 Form Four Students in secondary schools in Borama District using questionnaire and document analysis analyzed using simple linear regression technique. The study found that class size has a significant effect on knowledge acquisition [F (1304) = 50.078 p = .000; on attitude development [F (1 304) = 51.216 p = .000]; and on skill acquisition [F (1 304) = 144.695 p = .000].
