Acculturation and Psychological Well-Being: Turkish Immigrants in the US

About The Book

The twenty-first century is the century of migrants and there have been more internal and international migrants than ever before. Currently there are one billion people on the move which means one in seven of the total population is migrants. Every year the ratio of migrants continues to increase due to environmental issues economic and political instability. The movement therefore becomes an issue for both migrants and receiving societies because of different cultures of migrants and hosts. An interaction between migrants and host societies results in a special cultural change which is called acculturation. Acculturation is observed when different cultural groups come into contact. Acculturation is not a straightforward cultural change process. Migrants may experience several difficulties either positive or negative effect on their psychological well-being through this process when they get into direct contacts with a new culture.
