Acid etching in primary teeth

Adhesion is a complex set of physical mechanical and chemical mechanisms that enable two substances bond together. Acid etching is one of the most efficient methods for promoting retention because it selectively erodes the hydroxyapatite and creates irregularities that aid in the adhesion of restorative materials. Thus prior to applying adhesive resin to both enamel and dentin bonding systems should be carefully applied using the acid-etch technique.
