Adaptations in Theatre Classes for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities

About The Book

Theatre is an art and artistic production as well as providing pleasure is closely related to various areas of human development. This is why we can find various laws that support and guarantee access to and production of the arts in our country. The aim of the work presented in this book was to describe and critically analyse the adaptations made to the theatrical exercises offered in a theatre workshop for the inclusion of two disabled participants. The workshop was held at the Federal University of São Carlos and had 19 participants including J. with low vision and M. with hemiparesis plus 4 collaborators. Field diaries were used to collect the data. It was possible to observe through this study that adaptations are the main point for the inclusion of people with disabilities in theatre practice. The attitude of the teacher monitor or collaborator in theatre classes is fundamental to the inclusion of people with disabilities. This study was carried out in a non-formal teaching environment but it shows us that it is possible to carry it out in schools given that theatre teaching is provided for in the National Curriculum Parameters.
