Aesthetic Re-elaborations of Brazilian Black Dance in Contemporary Times

About The Book

This book is the result of research carried out during my doctoral studies in arts at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) the central theme of which is the analysis of Black Dance as elaborated and re-signified in two different Brazilian socio-historical-cultural contexts. From this perspective an analysis is made of the differences and similarities in the ethno-ethical-aesthetic-choreographic and dramaturgical re-elaborations of the Balé Folclórico da Bahia/Salvador/BA and the Grupo Grial de Dança/Recife/PE. The questions raised and revealed in this research indicate that these dances are sources of artistic production choreographic and dramaturgical creation in contemporary black Brazilian dance. It is believed that this work can fill existing gaps in studies and in-depth studies of black dance in the context of contemporary Brazilian dance from a critical analytical and reflective perspective.
