Agamemnon The Libation Bearers The Furies and Prometheus Bound

Aeschylus arguably the greatest of the Greek playwrights produced 90 plays but only seven have been preserved in their entirety. This venerable trilogy which examines the bloody past of the House of Atreus is one of them. The hero who vanquished Troy in Agamemnon comes to Argos and is assassinated by his wife Clytemnestra for giving up their daughter Iphigenia before the Trojan War began. The son of Agamemnon Orestes avenges his father in The Libation-Bearers by killing his mother. The divine avenging angels (Erinyes) of his mother pursue Orestes as he flees to Delphi in The Furies. He travels to Athens after receiving Apollos purification where he is tried (and found not guilty) at the Areopagus court.
