In Togo colonial rule meant that agriculture was essentially geared towards the production of export crops. At independence agricultural policies sought to reorientate the sector so that it could ensure the country''s food self-sufficiency through agricultural modernisation in this case the launch of the Green Revolution in 1977 for a period of 5 years. However despite all the initiatives taken here and there it has to be said that the country has not been able to achieve its objective of food self-sufficiency.
