Al-hajj Umar Taal and Anticolonial Resistance

This book deals with al-Hajj Umar Taal. He is a famous senegalese cleric who had been one of the first to fiercely fight against french imperialism in West Africa. He was the founder of a gigantic empire the Tekrour kingdom which actually constituted a buffer zone between the west african coastal zones and the hinterlands. With his army he not only led holy wars to convert thousands of pagans into Islam but he also fought against the penetration of french colonial forces into african areas.
