<p><b>Lewis Carroll</b> was the pen name used by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson who was born in England on January 27 1832 and died there on January 14 1898.</p><p>Though best known as an author today during his life-time he was an Anglican deacon mathematician logician and photographer.</p><p>His most famous writings are <i>Alice's Adventures in Wonderland</i> and its sequel <i>Through the Looking-Glass</i> and the nonsense poems <i>The Hunting of the Snark </i>and <i>Jabberwocky</i>. Because his writing is noted for its word play logic and fantasy it has a great appeal to adults.</p><p>There are societies dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of his works and the investigation of his life in many parts of the world including the United Kingdom Japan the United States and New Zealand
