<p><em>Akhtar Shairani</em> was descended from the Pashtun Sherani tribe who went to India with Sultan Mahmood Ghaznawi and settled in Tonk Rajasthan. Like those of Byron Keats and Shelley youth predominates throughout Akhtar's poetry. Shaair-e-Roomaan i.e. The Poet of Romance was his alias. Among his best-known poetry volumes are Akhtaristan Nigarshat-e-Akhtar Lala-e-toor Tayyur-e-Aawara Naghma-e-Haram Subh-e bahaar and Shahnaz. He was renowned for establishing literary trends in Urdu particularly in poetry. Selected short stories by Akhtar Shairani are included in this book Alif Laila ki aik Raat.</p><p><br></p>
