Attorney Peter Stern gets a new client Avery Witherspoon a DJ who sells drugs at the raves near the UPenn Campus. It seems that Avery was in a shootout over a dispute with his drugs suppliers. The drug gang approaches Stern and pays him a handsome fee not to cooperate with the DA but to go to trial - one he will lose because of the overwhelming evidence against him. The rival drug gang offers the same fee and valuable evidence to cooperate and put the other gang out of business. Avery refuses to help him in the investigation. Although from a wealthy society background Averys own dissolute lifestyle leads Stern in many directions.
