Alkaloids as modulators of smooth muscle contractile activity

One of the promising areas in modern pharmacology is the investigation of natural biologically active compounds with cardioprotective and vasoactive properties. Among these alkaloids-heterocyclic compounds of plant origin-are of particular interest due to their wide range of pharmacological effects including antihypertensive antiarrhythmic vasodilatory antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions. This study focuses on analyzing the mechanisms of action of specific groups of alkaloids and assessing their potential in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. Special attention is given to compounds with vasodilatory properties as well as to the prospects for developing new therapeutic agents based on these substances.
