Almost a Person

Poppy's not a person -- not yet anyway. She's already negative one year old so her ceremony is coming soon. She's never really thought much about it before but when one of her friends gets sent to the pound -- an orphanage for kids who aren't likely to make good persons -- she suddenly realizes that she might not make it either. How can she be sure that she'll be good enough? And how can she decide whether to send her sick baby sister to the orphanage where her needs will be met or to keep her and risk being responsible for her death?
